Information on Arranging an Ecclesiastical Funeral Rite

We kindly ask grieving relatives to note that the arrangement of an ecclesiastical funeral rite should always be made in person at the competent parish, and its administration should not be entrusted to funeral undertakings.

The fact of death must be recorded in the parish register at the competent parish according to the deceased's place of residence.

The funeral rite may be requested at the competent or another parish, by prior arrangement with the parish staff there.

A Requiem Mass for the spiritual repose of the deceased may be requested, the arrangement of which takes place at the parish conducting the funeral.

It is important to know that the territorially competent parish may refuse the funeral if the deceased was of another faith, or publicly and definitively apostatised from the Church.
