Following the decision of the College of Cardinals, Robert Francisc Prevost became the 267th Bishop of Rome and Head of the Catholic Church as Leo XIV.

White smoke rose from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel a few minutes after six o'clock in the evening on 08/05/2025, and at the same time, the bells of St. Peter's Basilica rang out, thus signalling that we have a Pope once again.
Leo XIV was born on 14/09/1955 in Chicago (United States of America, Illinois). He entered the Order of St. Augustine, and then took his perpetual vows on 29/08/1981.
In 1987, he earned a doctoral degree in theology. In 1988, he was sent to Peru, to the Trujillo mission, to lead the common formation of Augustinian candidates in the Vicariates of Chulucanas, Iquitos, and Apurímac. This mission lasted for 11 years, after which he was appointed Prior Provincial of the Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel in Chicago, and later, Prior General of the Order. Thus, he became responsible for the planning and governance processes of the Augustinian Order.
On 03/11/2014, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Chiclayo, Peru, and thereby elevated him to the dignity of Titular Bishop of Sufar. He was consecrated bishop on 12/12/2014. On 15/04/2020, the Holy Father appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Callao, and then in 2023, Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
