In keeping with tradition, Bishop Ferenc Palánki of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza celebrated Midnight Mass at St. Anne's Cathedral in Debrecen, and on the morning of 25/12, the first day of Christmas, he celebrated a festive Holy Mass at the Co-Cathedral of Our Lady of Hungary in Nyíregyháza.
What does it take to see the glory of God? Do we see it, do we pay attention, do we notice it? Where do we look for it? – these were the questions posed by the Bishop in his reflection. Many questions arise within us.
If we were to ask children what Christmas was like, they would list their presents. Adults would give various answers, perhaps peace was missing, the food wasn't prepared well, etc., but Christmas is much more than it appears. A tiny child is born, and behind him lies a much greater mystery. The shepherds and wise men saw the profound meaning that this child brought. Jesus' life is also more than what meets the eye.
If we look at Him with the eyes of faith, then in His deeds, words, and life, we can see the glory of the Father's Only Begotten Son. So, what does it take to see the glory of God? It is to see the great in the small, the great opportunity, the infinite value.
Bishop Ferenc Palánki's reflection can be listened to here.
